Black Sherif - The Villian I Never Was

Black Sherif, is a Ghanaian singer-songwriter who sees himself as a voice for his people. He expresses his raw and real experiences through his music, often touching on topics that were previously untouched. Black Sherif breakout singles, "First Sermon" and "Second Sermon," both pay tribute to street life and showcase Black Sherif's energetic delivery and firebrand lyricism.

Black Sherif's debut album, 'The Villain I Never Was,' was originally planned as an EP titled 'Road to the Tape.' The album provides a personal account of Black Sherif's journey and the experiences of those close to him. Before the heatwave of "First Sermon" and "Second Sermon," Black Sherif released his debut single, "Cry for Me," which showcased his talent as a singer and his Highlife influences. However, it was "Money" that gained him recognition in Ghana, as he layered his Highlife style over a Hip-Hop beat and sang about his desire to escape poverty.

On 'The Villain I Never Was,' Black Sherif released "Sad Boys Don't Fold," "Konongo Zongo," "Wasteman," "Oh Paradise," and the Burna Boy-featuring "Second Sermon (Remix)." and more. He pays homage to his roots on "Konongo Zongo," revisiting tough decisions he made in the past. In "Wasteman," he provides details about the pressures many youths in impoverished communities face. Nigerian Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy adds his taste to the certified street banger "Second Sermon (Remix)."

Black Sherif worked with various producers on the album, including Ghanaian Stallion, Joker nharnah, London, Samsney, JAE5, WhYJay & LiTek, AoD, RNDM, Zaylor, and Dystinkt Beats. Overall, 'The Villain I Never Was' highlights Black Sherif's storytelling ability and provides an insightful look into the experiences of those in impoverished communities in Ghana.

Sarkodie - JAMZ
Sarkodie, the highly acclaimed Ghanaian rapper, has unveiled a delightful 8th studio masterpiece with an array of sounds encompassing R&B, Afrobeats, amapiano, and tropical pop. According to Sarkodie, "It's influenced by the new wave of Afrobeats and the sounds emanating from Africa." Sarkodie goes on to explain that when he began recording the album, he realized that these are commercially viable, back-to-back playlist-style records. As a result, he created a project that combines all types of jams into one.

In one of the tracks, Sarkodie says he is a cancer sign, I find solace in the ocean and the sound of the waves, which brings me immense joy. I am currently relishing life, spending quality time with my family, and listening to music on a boat. These experiences inspired the creation of 'Labadi.' This spot in Ghana holds a special place in my heart as it is where I had my wedding ceremony. Coublon sent me the beat for the song, and I immediately began writing. I crafted the first verse and asked for Coublon's input. When he listened to it, he envisioned a boat ride, all-white attire, and having fun, which coincidentally matched the essence of the lyrics I had written. This is what makes 'Labadi' an exceptional track for me.

Sarkodie collaborated with Black Sherif, Lojay, King Promise, Kranium, Cina Soul, Oxlade, BNXN, Inkboy, and Joeboy to release these tracks with cool dope hooks and catchy melodies. Sarkodie shares that he is currently in a happy space, enjoying life, family, and spending time with cherished individuals, and the tone of the music reflects that sentiment. He explains that listening to the album is akin to listening to the radio, and it should make you feel elated. Sarkodie’s album definitely had to be on our char.

Kwesi Authur - Son Of Jacob
Kwesi Arthur has finally released his long-awaited debut full-length album, "Son of Jacob." This project is a reflection of his life experiences and those of his people, touching on various themes such as love, heartbreak, gratitude, and more. The album takes listeners on a musical journey through different genres such as Afrobeats, Hiplife, Drill, and Gospel, showcasing Kwesi Arthur's versatility as an artist.

"Son of Jacob" also features collaborations with renowned artists such as Teni Makanaki, Joeboy, Adekunle Gold, and Dayonthetrack. Kwesi Arthur explores hip-hop on the album, with tracks like "Drama" and "Mind Over Body" displaying his cool fierce rap skills. Other songs such as "Toxic" and "Traumatized" tackle sensitive issues such as sexual abuse and trauma, demonstrating Kwesi Arthur's willingness to address societal problems through his music.

The album's production is pristine, and the collaborators are well-placed, making the album's short span of 43 minutes a worthwhile listening experience. "Son of Jacob" is a project that deserves to be on the album of the year list and showcases Kwesi Arthur's growth and maturity as an artist. Despite its delayed release, this album is a must-listen for fans of African hip-hop and contemporary music.

In this review, we took a closer look at what makes these albums out of the box incredible as such each song off the album playlist became standout tracks, and why these albums should be a must-listen for music lovers all around Ghana.
