The Ghana Music Industry is one of the biggest industries on the African Continent which for several decades has being very vibrant in producing artistes/musicians that get a global attention.

Undisputedly, the Northern Region is not different when it comes to producing talented musicians who also contribute to the growth of the music industry in Ghana.

Ghana360news.com presents to you the 2017 Northern Ghana Top 10 Artistes who worked hard to contribute to the recognition of the Ghanaian Showbiz.

2017 Top 10 Northern Artistes.
10. Wizchild

Wizchild is one of the best upcoming artistes who have worked tirelessly in 2016 to prove how ready he was to join the competition in the Northern Music industry. He raps and sings. He is young, vibrant, versatile and very talented. Wizchild blends Hausa, Twi, Dagbani and English in his music. He made his biggest appearance in 2016 during Maccasio’s Music Video Premiere at Radach Hall and Conference Centre. In 2017, he officially signed and joined the Do More Talk Less (DMTL) music group. He shined more after the group released their debut song “DMTL” and has since been accepted by music lovers. He released 3 hit songs “Adaha, Zagsati and Mama” in 2017. Astonishingly, the upcoming singer/rapper who just all of the sudden appeared in the northern music performed at TV3 @ 50, Miss Ghana, Whatsapp TV Bash and Miss Tourism Ghana where Okyea Kwame stood and shot him (Wizchild) a video which showed a sign of real talent and Reggie Zippy also gifted him money. Wizchild as a new artiste in total performed on 110 different stages (Events) in 2017.

9. Sarauta

Saurata won the Upper East Artiste of the Year at the 2017 Northern Entertainment Awards. He performed on almost all the big events organized in Northern Region including Double Rave Show by Fancy Gadam and Ninsala Album Launch by Maccasio. The rapper/singer organized his own show dubbed “Subanche Concert” which was massively attended. Some of his hit songs are “Sunbache ft Maccasio, We Run Dat City ft Iwan, Drop the Zani ft Fancy Gadam and Sunguna ft NT4.’

8. Game Boy

Northern Ghana is one of the places where music fans living in it do not really give much interest and attention to the dancehall music. But with all these challenges, Game Boy worked hard throughout the year 2017 to prove that he really deserves to be recognized as one of the best young up and coming musicians in the Upper West Region. He won the Artiste of the Year, Upper West at the 2017, Northern Entertainment Awards and Artiste of the Year at the 2017 PROMAS. He had the largest fan base in Wa which was manifested when he had a sold out show at his album launch.

7. One9ra

One9ra has been consistent in his singing delivery since he won the Discovery of the Year at the 2017 Northern Entertainment Awards. He performed on about 90% events organized in Northern Region. He is the only singer who has been featured by about 90% musicians in the north particularly in 2017. Almost all the top northern based musicians featured him on their song and this shows how relevant he was in 2017 and how his talent was appreciated. Some of the top musicians who featured him on their songs include Maccasio, Ataaka, Double Tee, Don Sigli etc. Some of his hit tracks in 2017 that enjoyed massive radio play include “Give It To Me ft Maccasio, Oyoyo, Pagdede, Party Hard ft Episode, Follow Follow and Eze ft Gaffachi.”

6. Double Tee

Unndisputedly, Double Tee is the 3rd Force artiste/rapper in the Northern Region. Yes besides Fancy Gadam and Maccasio in the Northern Showbiz, in Tamale he is the 3rd most talked about artiste in the Northern Region. His creativity and rap skills have helped him to maintain his relevancy in the northern music industry in the north. Most music fans understand him to be a comic and controversial rapper in which he has being consistent since 2017. He appeared on about 80% big events organized in Tamale. His song “Nzo Issah” won the Best Music Video of the year 2017 at the 2017 Northern Entertainment Awards. He also organised his own show in 2017 which was quite patronized. He released several controversial songs like “Gmaa, Shei Ko Shei and Kadi Puli” which made him a topic for several discussions on both Radio and TV across the region. Beside the controversial songs, he also released couple of nice songs like 69, New Guy, Azaa Mbala etc which have been enjoying massive radio play since.

5. Sherifatu Ganu

Sherifatu Gunu since 2016 has not been enjoying the kind of stardom Fancy Gadam and Maccasio have being enjoying within the northern music fraternity. But she has always been that artiste who works hard to make herself relevant in the northern music industry. She recently won the Ghanaian Traditional Artiste of the Year at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards UK. She organized a free concert in Tamale in 2017 at the forecourt of Dakpema Placae to preach peace. Sharifatu Gunu performed Miss Ghana 2017 and she was honoured with International Diploma for promoting human sciences.

4. Wiyaala

The Ghanaian Afropop Artiste of international acclaim, Wiyaala may have not been given much attention or did not get much attention from the Northern music fans and industry players in 2017. This may be, because she has concentrated much to do her things beyond Northern Ghana’s belt. But no doubt she is a hardworking songstress and she has been working hard since she made her name in reality shows in Accra, she established a solo career in 2013 with the hit single “Rock My Body”, which won her two awards at the 2014 first edition of the All Africa Music Awards, the Most Promising Artiste in Africa and Revelation of The African Continent. In 2017 she won the Young and Gifted Award at 2017 Ghana Women of the Year honors. Wiyaala headlined London African Music Festival’s launch party which was held in London. She Spoke at the Impact Music Conference in 2017 held in Accra. She toured international countries and performed on high profile platforms.

3. Maccasio

As it is well and largely understood by people who follow northern music, you hardly here people discussing Fancy Gadam without discussing Maccasio. The two artistes have taken advantage of their rivalry to sell themselves and their music wisely, in the Ghana Music Industry. Beside this, Maccasio is one of the artistes who have worked so hard in 2017. Even though his last show for 2016 was 69 For Peace Concert and early 2017, he came up with Too Big Concert with Shatta Wale, both of them headlined the event. At the latter of 2017, he came up with Ninsala Album Launch at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium and headlined MTN Damba Fest at the Tamale Jubilee Park. Some industry players couldn’t tell whether the turnout of all the shows were more than or equaled Fancy Gadam’s show. All his events in 20017 were successful. The young rising rapper also recorded hit songs like “Ninsala, Koo Nineey ft Don Sigli, Too Big ft Shatta Wale and Inside ft Zeal (VVIP).” Maccasio also staged a show (Northern Explosion) at the Accra Sports Stadium which was successfully patronized. He won the 2017 Northern Entertainment Awards Best Collaboration of the Year with Koo Niney, 2017 Northern Entertainment Artiste of the Year, 2017 Northern Entertainment Best Rapper of the Year and 2017 Social Media Personality at the People’s Celebrity Awards. No doubt the rivalry between him and Fancy Gadam gave them both a solid hype since 2016.

2. Rocky Dawuni

The first Ghana Grammy nominee, Rocky Dawuni, straddles the boundaries between Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S. to create his appealing Afro Roots sound that unites generations and cultures. Dawuni has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Jack Johnson, Bono, Jason Mraz, Janelle Monae and John Legend, among many others. Named one of Africa’s Top 10 global stars by CNN, he has showcased his talent at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and The Hollywood Bowl. In June 2017 he joined the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau alongside musician / activist / surfer Jack Johnson in Toronto for World Environmental Day in association with the Government of Canada on the UN Environment. Rocky was also featured on two panels as a speaker at the prestigious Cannes International Festival of Creativity 2017 in France in association with the UN Foundation, the Global Alliance for Clean Cook Stoves and McCann World Group. 1. Fancy Gadam

Undoubtedly, Fancy Gadam is one of the artistes who have worked hard since 2016 in Ghana and not just in the Northern Region. Fancy Gadam as at 2016 was the first young rising singer in Ghana who set a record by filling the Tamale Sports Stadium now Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium and went to Accra to organise Gadam Nation Concert at the National Theatre which also had a massive turnout even though that was his first show organised outside the Northern Region and that got people talking about him. This effort all contributed to his success in winning the 2017 VGMA New Artist of the year and Bass Awards Discovery of the Year. After he had won these two prestigious awards in 2017, several people particularly who couldn’t believe he (Fancy Gadam) deserved to win the award started observing him to weigh if indeed he deserved to win those awards. Again, he proved beyond expectations, he deserved the awards especially after releasing one of GH 2017 best songs “Total Cheat” which featured Africa’s best rapper Sarkodie. After the release of the song, he toured some parts of Ghana like Kumasi (Baba Yara Sports Stadium), Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale and Bukum Arena in Accra, with massive succesful shows. He won the Favorite Music Video with his song “Total Cheat” at the latter of 2017 from Ghana People’s Celebrities Awards and finished the year with one of the best song with quality video in Africa which trended on several media platforms across Ghana and even some parts of Africa.
