Painter Makes Nation Proud

Kwadwo Ani, a renowned Ghanaian painter has made Ghana proud, by informing the world about Ghana and Africa in an inter-continent art exhibition held in the United Kingdom.

The exhibition, organised by the Royal Over-Seas League R.O.S.L ARTS from July 23, to September 5, at the Over-Seas House, London, is receiving massive patronage among art enthusiasts in and outside the United kingdom.

In an interview with Kwadwo Ani, he asserted: “This has been my biggest exhibition and it is certainly an eye-opener which will go a long way towards helping me improve on my work.”

Kwadwo's paintings showcased at the exhibition included Nite Fishermen, Tug of War, Monopoly, No pain, No gain, My reliable friend and Last Meal, all depicting the realities of controversy, joy, hard work and greed in an African setting projecting the cultural lifestyle of African people.

Kwadwo said he entered the Royal Over-Seas League competition with 54 other artists from Ghana, and his work was chosen among the lot to represent Ghana and Africa at the annual international art exhibition, which featured the four other continents’ representatives who had been chosen from their respective countries and continents.

The other exhibitors included Deborah Bowness, from the United Kingdom; Christine Morrow, from Australia; Sudath Abeysekera, from Sri-Lanka and Ebony Partterson, from Jamaica.

Kwadwo describes himself as "a naive painter", who uses his child-like creations to illustrate the realities of life through his spectrum. He uses his paint and brush to create bizzare but distinctive pieces which stun all art lovers .

Kwadwo Ani born in Accra, Ghana on March 26, 1966, is a graduate of the Ankle College of Art, Accra, and the Ghanatta College of Art, where he nurtured his dream to become a renowned painter.

Apart from his current exhibition, Kwadwo has participated in numerous exhibitions. He opened an exhibition dubbed Blues at the British Council in March this year. Other exhibitions include Quinzaine De la Francophone, hosted by Alliance Francaise, Accra, this year.
