
A combination of current Black Queens players and former players of the senior national team, the Black Stars last Saturday played at the Town Council Line park in Accra, in a memorial match in honour of the late , an ex-national star who died in an accident in the US a month ago.
Former national stars, goalkeeper Memunatu Suleimana, Adjoa Bayor, Gifty Woode, Diana Annan and Lydia Ankrah, together with current Black Queens players like Florence Okoh and Romanatu Tahiru, thrilled the teeming youth from Sukura, Russia and Town Council Line.
The event, put together by Mr Francis Kudeh, founder of Great Mawuena Ladies, who nurtured the late star attracted teams like Ghantel Ladies, Great Mawuena Ladies, Postal Ladies, Mantse Agbonaa Ladies, Nungua Ladies and Old Stars.
The eight-aside all- play- all gala fiesta also attracted officials of the Greater Accra Women’s Football League Clubs Association, including its chairman, Mr Sylvestre Mensah, and President of the Unison Supporters Union of Ghana, Mrs Marian Buckman.
Speaking to the Graphic sports, Mr Mensah described Patricia as a lady who devoted her time to the service of God and country and stated that there were only few of her kind around.
He urged the youth to emulate her selflessness.
Patricia until her demise was a stalwart of the senior national women’s team, the Black Queens, and played in the central defence.
She was part of the Queens team that made it to the 2003 and 2007 World Cups in the USA and China and actively played a crucial role in the team’s campaign.
Her body will be laid in state at the Town Council Line park in the early hours of Saturday, June 11, for a match to be played in her honour. The body will be conveyed to the Ohene Djan Sports stadium for final funeral rites before burial at the Osu cemetery.
