Media personality and writer Nathaniel Quaye has called for more responsibility in the use of social media, stressing that freedom of speech should never be used as an excuse for violence, intimidation, or hatred.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Nathaniel Quaye expressed concern over the increasing abuse of online platforms, where insults, threats, and toxic exchanges have become common in public discussions.
According to him, people must understand the difference between expressing opinions and promoting harmful behavior online.
“Freedom of speech should never become an excuse for violence, intimidation, insults, or hatred. We can disagree, criticize, and express our opinions without threatening lives or spreading fear,” he stated.
Nathaniel Quaye further emphasized that communication is a skill that reflects a person’s maturity, intelligence, and emotional discipline. He noted that healthy communication should allow people to disagree respectfully without resorting to abusive language or personal attacks.
He also highlighted the original purpose of social media, explaining that these platforms were created to connect people, share ideas, educate, inspire, and create opportunities. However, he believes many users have turned social media into spaces filled with negativity and hostility.
“This growing abuse of social media is becoming dangerous for society, especially for the younger generation watching and learning from us,” he added.
Nathaniel Quaye called on individuals to become more mindful of the impact of their words online, stressing that posts and comments can influence emotions, damage reputations, and create unnecessary tension within society.
He also urged stakeholders, including leaders, platform owners, and citizens, to encourage responsible communication and help create a healthier online environment.
“If we truly want a peaceful and progressive society, then we must sanitize the online space and encourage respectful communication. Criticism is acceptable. Threats and intimidation are not,” he concluded.
Nathaniel Quaye is widely recognized for using his platform to promote meaningful conversations surrounding social issues, entertainment, leadership, culture, and responsible digital communication in Ghana. Through his writings and media engagements, he has consistently advocated for positivity, professionalism, youth empowerment, and constructive public discourse. His growing influence in Ghana’s media and online space continues to position him as a strong voice for responsible communication and social awareness among the younger generation.
