Director-General Calls for Self-Reliance and Modernization in Prison Service

The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie, has called for greater self-reliance within the Service through large-scale agricultural expansion and modernization initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of officers and inmates.

Delivering her keynote address at a recent event, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted the need for the Service to invest more in agriculture to boost food production and reduce dependence on external support. She also announced plans for the provision of modern accommodation for officers and the upgrading of all prison infirmaries into fully equipped clinics to enhance healthcare delivery within the facilities.

The Director-General further stressed the importance of building stronger partnerships with stakeholders in the areas of education and sanitation, noting that collaboration was essential for achieving sustainable reform in the prison system.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie also urged officers to prioritize their health by adopting positive lifestyles and steering clear of alcohol and illicit substances. She emphasized that maintaining discipline and personal well-being was crucial to ensuring professionalism and efficiency in the discharge of their duties.

The address underscored the Service’s renewed commitment to modernization, welfare improvement, and national development.
