TUC OPPOSES Tribunals Bill, Calls For Withdrawal Of Proposed Law

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called on government to withdraw the Regional and District Tribunals Bill currently before Parliament, arguing that the proposed legislation is unnecessary and could undermine public confidence in Ghana's justice system.
The Attorney-General recently laid the Bill before Parliament to revive the tribunal system under Article 126 of the 1992 Constitution. The proposed law seeks to establish reformed tribunals alongside the traditional courts to help reduce case backlog and strengthen constitutional safeguards for due process and human rights.
However, speaking at a press conference, Secretary-General of the TUC, Joshua Ansah, said the union's long-standing position is that regional tribunals are no longer relevant and should be removed from the Constitution.
The debate continues as stakeholders weigh the need for judicial reforms, access to justice and the preservation of public trust in Ghana's legal system
