Tribunals Bill Clash: Afenyo-Markin Rejects Clause 4 As Ayine Pushes Back

The Minority in Parliament is proposing the deletion of Clause 4 of the Tribunals Bill, 2026, which establishes a tribunal system comprising Regional Tribunals and District Tribunals.

The clause also affirms the independence of both tribunals, but the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, argues that introducing the system could create confusion within Ghana's judicial structure.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin described the proposed arrangement as a possible “chooboi system” and called for the clause to be removed.

However, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, dismissed the concerns as misleading, defending the proposed reforms and their intended role in improving access to justice.
