President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry of Health to reopen the recruitment portal to absorb 16,000 nurses awaiting postings.
Speaking during a durbar in Ho, Volta Region, as part of his duty tour on Thursday, July 16, 2026, President Mahama said the move will help address the backlog of qualified nurses waiting to be posted.
The announcement was made during discussions on the government's Free Primary Health Care Programme, with the President emphasising the need to strengthen Ghana's healthcare workforce and improve access to healthcare services.
