Hunger deepens in South Sudan as fighting cuts off aid to displaced families

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has condemned escalating violence in South Sudan, saying humanitarian operations are being crippled by attacks, looting and restrictions on movement. The UN says about 10 million people, more than two-thirds of the population, need help. Recent fighting in Jonglei state has forced about 280,000 people from their homes. Humanitarian facilities have been targeted, including a Doctors Without Borders hospital hit by an airstrike and a medical centre attacked and looted. The World Food Program has suspended operations in one area after armed groups attacked a river convoy carrying food for more than 70,000 people.
