The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has adjudged under-17 superstar Mukarama Abdulai as the 2018 Women’s Footballer of the year.
The prolific Northern Ladies striker beat opposition from Black Queens player Faustina Ampah as well as Ampem Darkoa star player Grace Asantewaa to win the top award at a colourful ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
A citation from SWAG read, “Muka as you are affectionately called, you scored six goals in five games during the first round of the truncated 2019 National Women’s League.
“During the qualifying campaign of the National under-17 side, the Black Maidens, you scored 12 goals to finish the qualifiers as the top scorer.
“As captain of the maidens during the Women’s under-17 world cup in Uruguay, you showed your class and finished the tournament as the top scorer with seven goals, and also won the Bronze ball award for being the third best player at the tournament.
“It is for these inspiring feats that SWAG is proud to award you, Mukarama Abdulai as the Women Footballer of the Year Award”.
Abdulai Mukarama is currently with the Black Queens team that is playing in the 2019 WAFU Zone B championship. She has come on from the bench in all two matches the team has played and has scored twice.
