Black Stars victory song launched

Accra, Sept. 30, GNA - Ghanaians have been called upon to support the national football team, the Black Stars in their quest for World Cup 2006.

Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo, Minister of Education and Sports made the call in an address read for him at the launch of victory song for the Black Stars, in Accra on Friday.

The song, "Black Stars Ye Ko Yen Anim," (Black Stars, We are moving forward) composed by the Musicians Union of Ghana, is to motivate the stars to perform creditably in their quest for the world cup dreams.

Mr. Osafo Maafo said sports, especially football brings unity and that it must be involved in party politics and any attempt to bring disunity into it would tear the nation apart.

He said the ministry would do everything possible to ensure that the power inherent in football is used to market the nation. Mr. Osafo Maafo thanked the Union for their good work done and expressed the hope that the song would motivate the players to give of their best in the competition.

Mr. Joe Baiden Ansah, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, who chaired the function called on soccer fans to comport themselves during and after soccer matches. Nana Kwame Ampadu, leader of the Union, said the performance of the team so far motivated them to compose the music.

He praised the technical team of the Black Stars for their efforts at developing the team to participating in the World Cup for the first time.

Ten per cent of the sales of the album would be used to support the stars.

The first album was auctioned for two million cedis.
