MAR 16, 2018 LISTEN

Celebrated Ghanaian footballer, Prince Tagoe has explained why he never scored a single goal at the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

Ghana Black Stars was in group D of the 2010 Fifa World Cup which consisted of Germany, Australia, Serbia and Ghana — which along with Group G, were considered to be the 'groups of death' in the competition.

Ghana, who was knocked out in the quarter-final stage by Uruguay, scored four goals in the competition.

Three(3) of the goals were scored by the lead striker Asamoah Gyan— while Sulley Muntari scored the remaining One goal.

Prince Tagoe, who was also a striker, failed to score a single goal in the competition. His inability to score in the competition attracted a hefty uproar by most football enthusiasts who couldn’t fathom why a striker of his calibre couldn't score in such a competition.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Yaw Ampofu Ankrah and Kokui, hosts of 'Home Run' on Kwese TV,Thursday, monitored by Razzonline.com, Prince Tagoe aka 'Prince of Goals’,who was answering a question in line with why he couldn’t score a single goal at the most prestigious stage, explained that he was not supposed to score at the World Cup because the Coach ( Milovan Rajevac) didn’t put him at his natural position:

“I was not getting the opportunity to play my natural role;because the first time I was called for the qualification, when I was playing my natural role when Asamoah was injured and he was not part of the qualification; Junior and Mathew Amoah and I qualified Ghana to the world cup and that was when I was scoring because I was playing typical nine

But because I have speed, and I can tackle sometimes, when the coach came and Asamoah came onboard, the coach decided that,he will use me so that I can come back and help the right back so that there wouldn’t be gaps— so I was not supposed to score at the world cup, with the role I was given, I was not even supposed to sometimes get into the 18 too much”, Prince Tagoe explained.

The most intense part of the interview is when the Prince of goals delineated that he felt extremely frustrated when the fans were not happy about he was not scoring.
