Accra, July 4, GNA - Madina produced a splendid performance to emerge champions of the third edition of the Sheik Sharubutu Cup.
The annual competition, held over the weekend at the Wembley Park at Kotobabi in Accra, saw Madina beating Tudu by 3:2 on penalties in the finals.
The two sides drew 1:1 in regulation time in the hotly contested finals, which had the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu and his elders in attendance.
The tournament featured sixteen zongo communities within the Greater Accra region.
Madina made their intentions clear early in the tournament by knocking out defending champions Ashaiman in their opening match.
In the quarter finals stage, Madina defeated Kasoa before on to beat New Fadama 2:0 in the semi-finals to face Tudu in the grand finale.
Tudu also defeated Nima in the first round, Sabon Zongo in the quarter finals and Koforidua Zongo in the semi-finals.
Madina's Daniel Djangmah and Tudu's Derek Sasraku were named the NASCO player of the tournament and top scorer respectively, and they received products from NASCO Electronics for their efforts.
Other players, who were named "Man of the Match" in the various matches also received products from NASCO.
The Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup, organised by Crisp Communications, was sponsored by the Alhaji Dr Adamu Iddrissu Foundation, which is funded by The Royal Bank.
Other supporting sponsors were NASCO Electronics, Afro Arab Group, Palace Shopping Mall and Marwako Fast Food.
The tournament started in 2015 and it's organised in honour of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu. It is also aimed at bringing the youth from the various zongo communities together.
