On 19th March, 2003,Kumasi Asante Kotoko were crowned Champions of the GHALCA organized LG Top Four Tournament even with a game remaining, toppling their bitterest rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, from the top spot.
It was their first pre-season title though were officially presented the trophy on Sunday, 23rd March under their newly signed coach then "Golden Boy" Abdul Razak.
No one could begrudge them as they won all their matches including a 2-0 bashing of Hearts in Kumasi .
And even Liberty, who many thought could derail the championship aspirations of Kotoko, was disposed off with ease at Ghana's second largest city-Kumasi.
Two second half goals including a master-craft delivery by Isaac Boakye gave the trophy to Razak and his boys, which made their last game against Hearts a mere formality. But Hearts for records purposes matched Kotoko booth for booth to bring the second leg scoreless draw.
In all Kotoko have two GHALCA Top-4 trophies to their credit with Hearts of Oak, the most successful club with 3 titles.
