Young musician Shadrack Adjei popularly known as Naterial was, at the wee hours of Saturday, crowned winner of the maiden edition of the MTN Hitmaker reality show which came off at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The final showdown among the four came off at the Accra International Conference Centre, with the entire auditorium giving Naterial a standing ovation when his name was announced as the overall winner.
Naterial beat three other contestants, Miriam, ATM (Atimbila) and Chiki to win the ultimate prize.
Naterial took home a cash price of a cool GH¢100,000 from MTN and a year's promotional package and other souvenirs.
An upcoming gospel musician, Miriam Afari Affiaku, popularly known as Miriam, emerged first runner-up, taking home an amount of GH¢50,000.
Even before the announcement was made, it was obvious Naterial was the favourite of the audience, as some of them were seen still voting for him by texting NAT to MTN short code 1327.
Several of his fans were also seen moving from seat to seat soliciting votes for him while he was on stage performing.
His performance also made him stand tall as he did a jaw-dropping live band performance of his 'Adole' track with Ghana's dancehall King Samini. Naterial's dance, theatrics and stage command made him unique.
The night also saw wonderful performances by Guru, Kwaw Kesse, Ohemaa Mercy, Kaaki and Nigeria's Davido.
Before the winner was announced by MCs Bola Ray and Nana Aba Anamoah, the finalists had to go through two rounds of performing their own songs and collaborating with the main stars for the night.
ATM collaborated with Kwaw Kese, Mariam collaborated with Ohemaa Mercy while Chiki and Naterial collaborated with Guru and Samini respectively.
During those thrilling performances, it was Naterial who was the most impressive, prompting chants from the packed Conference Centre that he was the obvious winner. Patrons always went gaga each time he performed.
The MTN Hitmaker contest, produced by Farmhouse for MTN Ghana, was unique in the sense that it was the only music reality show in Ghana that had a significant and meaningful impact on the careers of contestants.
