Ghana striker Junior Agogo has been axed by Cyprus club Appollon Limassol, Ghanasoccernet.com investigations have revealed.
The attacker, who made his name at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations because of his scoring prowess, was released last year.
Agogo was asked to leave after a serious knee injury he suffered while training with the club. Even before the injury, club officials of Apollon Limassol were unimpressed with his performance which seems to have quickened the decision for them to release him from his two-year contract.
Agogo joined Apollon in 2009 after a raucous exit from Egyptian side Zamalek because of months of frustration and unpaid wages.
He was handed a bumper deal by the Cyprus side which was worth US$1m per year.
Agogo has now recovered from the knee injury and he is on the verge of reviving his career in European with a Scandinavian club.
The striker was the toast of fans at the 2008 African Cup of Nations and even had marriage proposals from many girls during the tournament hosted in his country.
