The driver whose truck crushed to death four school children and a woman in the Western Region on Thursday has been arrested.
District commander of Kwesimintim, DSP Ayamga confirmed the arrest in an interview with Joy News on Friday.
According to him, the driver bolted to the Ashanti Region but with the assistance of the owner of the truck he has been apprehended.
He said the driver looks remorseful but will be made to face the full rigours of the law.
Explaining how the accident occurred, the driver is reported to have said that a saloon car which had over taken him stopped instantly to allow the school children to cross the road at a zebra crossing.
In order not run over the saloon car he had to divert into the other lane, and in the process crushed the children and a woman who was helping them cross the road.
Three other children in critical condition were rushed to the Efia Nkwanta Hospital and the Kwesimintsim Polyclinic.
DSP Ayamga said the driver will be hauled before court on Monday on a provisional charge of dangerous driving.
If found guilty he could face a minimum sentence of three years.
Meanwhile, the Western Region Minister, Paul Boateng Aidoo has visited families of the victims to console them.

This driver should not drive ever again and shouldn't hold drivers licence period and if stiffer sentence is not serve. it will keep happening. Again the general public should be educated especially school children and there should be school crossing guard in annd around these areas with proper speeding limit within these zones
