Former Hearts of Oak captain Lawrence Adjah-Tetteh has called for the inclusion of home-based players in the Black Stars squad for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Somalia.
Ghana are scheduled to face Somalia in a double-header for Matchdays 3 and 4 of the qualifiers later this month, with both matches set to take place at the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi.
With the Black Stars desperate to revive their qualification campaign after losing their opening two matches, Adjah-Tetteh believes combining locally based players with their foreign-based counterparts could strengthen the squad.
“I think when we blend local and foreign-based players, it will be okay. It depends on the coach. He will identify the players who can fit into the team. We should allow him to come in and select his players so that we can have a better team,” he told Citi Sports.
The former Hearts of Oak skipper also urged Ghanaians to rally behind the national team, insisting that victory in both encounters is achievable.
“We want a win for the Black Stars to qualify. We can beat Somalia, and we should give the team maximum support,” he added.
Adjah-Tetteh also expressed confidence in the interim technical team of Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko, citing their experience as former players.
“I have confidence in Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko because they are former players and they have the experience. They can do it. I believe we can win and even qualify,” he said.
Ghana will host Somalia on Thursday, November 12, before travelling for the return fixture on November 16.
The Black Stars currently sit bottom of Group C without a point following defeats in their opening two matches. The double-header is therefore crucial to their hopes of keeping their chances of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON alive.
