Division One League side Elmina Sharks have confirmed that goalkeeper William John Donkoh has had his left leg amputated following a motor accident in Cape Coast.
The club announced the development in a statement on Thursday, 22 October 2026, expressing sadness over the incident and pledging support for the goalkeeper and his family.
Donkoh was involved in the accident on Tuesday, 20 October, and sustained severe injuries to his left leg.
He underwent surgery on Wednesday night, but doctors were unable to save the injured limb, leading to its amputation.
Elmina Sharks described the development as devastating news and assured the goalkeeper that he would continue to receive the club's support throughout his recovery and beyond.
“The Board, Management, Playing Body and Supporters of Elmina Sharks FC are deeply saddened by this news,” the club said.
“The club will stand with William and his family throughout his recovery and beyond. William remains a valued member of the Sharks family.”
The club also appealed to the football community to keep Donkoh and his family in their prayers while respecting their privacy during what it described as a difficult period.
Elmina Sharks said further updates on the goalkeeper's condition would be communicated in due course.
