Julian Alvarez scored his first goal of the season to help Atletico Madrid come from behind to earn a draw against Stuttgart.
The Argentina forward spent the summer in transfer limbo as Barcelona tried to lure him away from Atletico, but they refused to sell him to their La Liga rivals.
It was Alvarez who got Diego Simeone's side back into this with a lovely sweeped finish just 80 seconds into the second half after substitute Ademola Lookman - who came on at the break - found him unmarked in the area.
Atletico midfielder Morten Hjulmand was then sent off in the 64th minute for a reckless challenge on Angelo Stiller, who was impressive throughout for the German side, but the Spaniards held on for a hard-earned point.
Stuttgart, who won their opening two games of the competition, had dominated the opening 45 minutes but did not take the lead until the 36th minute.
Jamie Leweling scored from the edge of the area with a fine low strike to give the Bundesliga side a deserved advantage at the break.
But they were made to rue their missed first-half chances when Alvarez levelled the game just over a minute after the restart.
Atletico looked like they might take control of the game but then Hjulmand's challenge left them with 10 men for the final 26 minutes.
That saw Stuttgart put them under pressure but they could not find a winner as defender Jeff Chabot headed wide their best opportunity from Maximilian Mittelstadt's corner.
