The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have appointed a five-member Search Committee to oversee the recruitment of a new head coach for the Black Stars.

The decision was reached after a meeting between the leadership of the GFA and the Ministry in Accra on Friday, 2 October 2026.

The committee will be chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, who brings extensive experience in football administration and governance.

He will be joined by Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) General Secretary Anthony Baffoe, legal practitioner and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu, former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah and FIFA high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah.

The committee has been tasked with identifying, assessing and recommending a suitable candidate for the vacant Black Stars coaching position.

It is expected to submit its report to the GFA by Friday, 9 October.

The Black Stars job became vacant on Thursday, 1 October, after Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz resigned following Ghana's poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Ghana lost their opening two Group C matches against Ivory Coast and Gambia, leaving the Black Stars without a point after the September international window.

The GFA and the Ministry are expected to appoint a new coach before the Black Stars reconvene in November for their next AFCON qualifiers against Somalia.

The two matches are scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
