Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has backed Carlos Queiroz to remain as Black Stars coach despite the team's poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The four-time African champions are yet to pick up a point from their opening two Group C matches as they attempt to return to the tournament after missing out on the 2025 edition in Morocco.
Ghana began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast before suffering a 4-2 loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, despite taking a two-goal lead.
The results have intensified calls for Queiroz to be dismissed, with the Portuguese coach facing growing criticism over the team's performances.
Queiroz was retained after guiding Ghana to qualification for the 2026 World Cup, where the Black Stars will return to the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
Despite the mounting pressure on the coach, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe believes he should be given more time to turn the team's fortunes around.
“With the present coach, I will say he should be just left alone. Absolutely, he should remain,” the Hearts of Oak board member told Citi FM.
“What we saw yesterday [against Gambia] was not his fault; he is a good stopgap coach, and he showed it when he took us to the World Cup. Such a coach, you don’t throw him away.”
He added: “If we did that, looking for another coach will not be easy; another coach who can bring these boys up will not be easy, I can assure you.
“Nobody should sack him, or nobody should put pressure on him.”
Ghana will return to action in November when they face Somalia twice in quick succession in their next Group C qualifiers.
The Black Stars are currently bottom of the group without a point after two matches.
