2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana must be better prepared and win against Somalia

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz says the Black Stars must improve their preparation and organisation after suffering a second consecutive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, leaving them without a point from their opening two Group C matches.

The defeat came four days after the Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké in their opening qualifier.

Despite the disappointing start, Queiroz rejected the suggestion that the back-to-back defeats represented a step backwards for his side.

"We cannot say it is a step back. What we can do is to be better prepared, better organised for the next games and win the next games. This is what we have to get done," Queiroz said after the match.

Ghana had appeared to be on course for their first victory of the campaign after taking a 2-0 lead, but The Gambia staged a remarkable comeback to claim all three points.

The result leaves the four-time African champions facing an uphill task to revive their qualification campaign and secure a place at the 2027 tournament.

Ghana will return to action in October when they face Somalia in a double-header at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars are attempting to return to the continental showpiece after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
