Former Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says his decision to resign from the club was not influenced by the team's recent performances or their 2-0 defeat by Aduana FC.
The Ghana Premier League club confirmed on Monday that it had mutually agreed with the South African coach to terminate his contract.
Tinkler revealed after the defeat to Aduana that he had already decided to leave the club before the match.
“I have handed in my resignation, but it has nothing to do with performance,” Tinkler told Kotoko's media team.
“It had nothing to do with the result [against Aduana Stars]. This was a decision I had already made last week. This is the world of football.”
The 55-year-old said an offer from a club in South Africa was the main reason behind his decision to leave Kotoko.
“I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa, and that is the main reason why I’ve made the decision that I have,” he added.
Tinkler is reportedly set to return to South Africa to take charge of Durban City following his departure from the Ghanaian giants.
His resignation comes after a brief spell in charge of Kotoko, during which he guided the club to victory in the Democracy Cup.
Kotoko defeated arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the competition to secure a trophy under the South African coach.
His departure leaves the Porcupine Warriors searching for a new head coach as they continue their campaign in the Ghana Premier League.
- What next?
Asante Kotoko will hope to return to winning ways when they host Karela United on Thursday at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Matchday Five game.
