Ghana goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi joins Stellenbosch on long-term deal

Ghana international goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi has signed for South African Premier Soccer League club Stellenbosch FC on a long-term contract after leaving Hearts of Oak.

The 25-year-old joins the Maroons ahead of the 2026-27 season, adding to Stellenbosch's goalkeeping options alongside experienced pair Sage Stephens and Nathan Garrow.

Agbasi was part of Ghana's squad setup for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, travelling with the Black Stars during the tournament, and now begins a new chapter in South African football.

Speaking after completing the move, the goalkeeper said he had already felt at home at his new club.

"I feel very excited to be part of Stellenbosch FC," Agbasi said.

"Football has always given me a place to call home, and I feel like I am at home. Everyone has welcomed me and I feel good to be here."

The former Hearts of Oak goalkeeper also outlined his ambitions of helping Stellenbosch challenge near the top of the league and return to continental competition.

"I'm hoping to help the team get back to the top four in the league, and from there compete for the league and in the CAF Confederation Cup or Champions League in the coming seasons," he added.

Agbasi will wear the No. 16 shirt and could make his competitive debut when Stellenbosch face Kaizer Chiefs on 17 October.

Before his spell at Hearts of Oak, Agbasi established himself as one of Ghana's standout goalkeepers during Dreams FC's memorable run to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals, performances that helped raise his profile at both club and international level.

The move offers the goalkeeper the chance to test himself in one of Africa's strongest domestic leagues while continuing his push for a more prominent role with the Black Stars.
