2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Mohammed Kudus absence could make Ivory Coast clash tougher for Ghana - Adebayor

Togo legend Emmanuel Adebayor believes Ghana will face a stern test against Ivory Coast in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier following the withdrawal of Mohammed Kudus from the Black Stars squad.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward was initially included in Carlos Queiroz's 24-man squad for the Group C fixtures but pulled out on Sunday to focus on his recovery after spending several months on the sidelines.

Kudus has been replaced by Derby County forward Mohammed Fuseini ahead of Ghana's crucial qualifying campaign.

Speaking to 3Sports, former Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid striker Adebayor said the absence of the influential midfielder could be significant against a strong Ivorian side.

"There is no game without an experienced player; it will be hard," Adebayor said.

"Kudus would have brought confidence into the team. But with the youngsters, trust me, it will be difficult.

"Ivory Coast against Ghana, you need some players who can bring cool heads."

Ghana begin their AFCON qualifying campaign away to Ivory Coast at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on 24 September before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.

Queiroz's side will then round off the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October as the Portuguese coach seeks to build momentum in his early months in charge of the Black Stars.
