Ghana international Ernest Nuamah scored a brace as Olympique Lyonnais maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Rennes on Saturday.

The win lifted Lyon to second place in the league standings, with Nuamah delivering a standout performance on his return to the starting line-up after missing the club's Europa League victory over Anderlecht in midweek.

The 24-year-old wasted little time making an impact, opening the scoring in the seventh minute after being picked out by captain Corentin Tolisso. Nuamah applied a composed finish to give the hosts an early advantage.

He came close to doubling his tally 11 minutes later when Tolisso won possession high up the pitch and released the Ghanaian through on goal.

However, Rennes goalkeeper Brice Samba reacted well to deny him, pushing the effort behind for a corner.

Nuamah eventually grabbed his second goal of the evening 10 minutes later, finishing from a Pavel Sulc assist to put Lyon firmly in control at 2-0 before the break.

After halftime, Zachary Athekame added a third goal for Lyon before Tolisso capped an impressive display with the fourth to complete a dominant performance and secure all three points.

The brace means Nuamah has now been directly involved in four goals in four Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring three times and providing one assist.

His fine form comes at the right time for Ghana, with the winger recently named in Carlos Queiroz's 24-man squad for the Black Stars' opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Ivory Coast and The Gambia.
