2026/27 GHPL: Medeama held by Vision as title defence begins with draw

Defending champions Medeama SC began their Ghana Premier League title defence with a 1-1 draw away to Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema New Town on Saturday.

The hosts made the brighter start and took the lead after just eight minutes when Naziru Alhassan Nyeney found the net to give Vision an early advantage.

Medeama responded after the break and drew level within two minutes of the restart, with Kingsley Braye finishing to make it 1-1 and spark an improved second-half display from the visitors.

The match unfolded as a tale of two halves, with Vision controlling much of the opening period before Medeama returned with greater intensity after the interval. Neither side, however, could find a winner as the points were shared.

The result means Medeama could not repeat last season's 2-1 comeback victory over Vision at the same venue, but they leave with a point from their opening league fixture after their CAF Champions League commitments delayed the start of their domestic campaign.

The champions return to league action on Wednesday, when they face Dreams FC in an outstanding fixture at the Tuba Astro Turf.

Vision move up to four points from their opening two matches and sit sixth, while Medeama are 13th with one point and two games in hand.

Heart of Lions' difficult start to the season continued as they were held to a goalless draw by Swedru All Blacks in Kpando.

The home side remain without a victory after three matches, having previously drawn 0-0 with Aduana FC before losing 2-1 to Asante Kotoko.

Despite playing at home, Lions were unable to break down a disciplined All Blacks side, who earned a valuable point on their travels.

The draw leaves Lions with two points from a possible nine and in 12th place, with concerns growing after another home game without a goal.

Newly promoted All Blacks, meanwhile, have made a steady start to life back in the top flight. They move to four points from three matches and sit fifth after following up their opening defeat with a win over Debibi United and now a draw on the road.
