2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Niger and Somalia to play home games at Accra Sports Stadium - NSA DG confirms

The Accra Sports Stadium is poised to host international matches involving Niger and Somalia during the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after receiving approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah confirmed that both countries have expressed interest in using Ghana's national stadium as their home venue during the next international window.

Speaking to 3Sports, Ampofo Ankrah said the Accra Sports Stadium remains Ghana's only venue currently certified to host FIFA Category A international matches.

"Accra Sports Stadium is currently the only approved venue for FIFA Category A matches," he said.

The stadium recently underwent maintenance works after CAF raised concerns about its readiness to stage international fixtures. Following the improvements, the venue has now been cleared to host competitive matches and is expected to serve not only as the home ground for the Black Stars but also potentially for Niger and Somalia.

Ampofo Ankrah revealed that preparations are already underway ahead of the forthcoming qualifiers.

"On the 24th of September, the Black Stars will be in Bouaké. And at the same time, Niger will be here against Lesotho. So we're preparing for that," he said.

He also disclosed that Somalia's qualifying fixtures against Ghana are expected to take place in Accra.

"Both matches [Ghana vs Somalia and Somalia vs Ghana] will be played in Accra, home and away. So that's what the FA has communicated. So we need to prepare for those matches," he added.

The 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign gets underway next week, with Ghana opening their Group C campaign away to Côte d'Ivoire in Bouaké before returning to Accra to face Gambia.
