Accra Inter-City Marathon winners to receive $4,000 prize package

Winners of the flagship 21-kilometre race at this year's Accra Inter-City Marathon will walk away with a prize package worth $4,000, organisers have announced.

According to event organisers Medivents Consult, the package includes a cash prize of GH¢18,000 (approximately $1,500) and a $2,500 travel package to participate in an international marathon scheduled for January.

Speaking to the media in Kumasi, race director William Ezah said the prize package will be awarded to both the men's and women's winners of the 21km event.

He added that runners-up in the two categories will receive GH¢10,000, medals and gifts from sponsors, while third-place finishers will take home GH¢5,000 alongside other rewards.

"There will be cash and gifts for other winners in all categories," Ezah said.

The organisers have also outlined prize money for the para-athletics division. Winners of the 21km para race will receive GH¢5,000, with second place earning GH¢2,500 and third place taking home GH¢2,000.

Ezah said all participants will be awarded medals and wristbands, while refreshments will be provided by beverage sponsor Tampico.

He also revealed that skaters will feature in the event as part of efforts to create a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere for spectators and participants.

The race director further assured participants that discussions are ongoing to secure comprehensive insurance coverage for all competitors during the event.
