2026/27 GPL: Kotoko and Debibi United charged over highlight video breach

Asante Kotoko and Debibi United have been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for allegedly breaching the Premier League regulations by failing to publish match highlights within the required timeframe.

The two clubs have been accused of violating Article 38(8)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2025, following their Ghana Premier League fixture at Golden City Park in Berekum.

According to the GFA, both clubs failed to upload video highlights of the match within 48 hours after the game, a requirement introduced as part of the league's media and broadcast obligations.

The charges form part of the GFA's latest regulatory actions for the 2026-27 season as it continues to enforce compliance with competition rules across the top flight.

Kotoko, one of Ghana's most successful clubs, and newly promoted Debibi United have both been given until Friday, 11 September 2026, to respond to the allegations before the disciplinary process continues.

The GFA did not indicate the potential sanctions the clubs could face should they be found guilty, but the case highlights the governing body's increasing emphasis on meeting media and commercial requirements designed to enhance the visibility and accessibility of the Ghana Premier League.

The publication of timely match highlights has become a key obligation for clubs as the league seeks to expand its digital reach and maximise the value of its broadcast product.
