Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to arrive in Ghana this week ahead of the start of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this month.

The 73-year-old has been reappointed as Ghana coach after guiding the Black Stars to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America on a short-term contract. Details of his new deal are yet to be officially announced by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Queiroz oversaw Ghana's best World Cup performance since 2010, leading the four-time African champions to the knockout stage of the tournament.

The former Egypt and Colombia coach is expected to be formally reintroduced to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams upon his arrival before addressing the media.

Reports suggest the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have agreed on a one-year contract for Queiroz, with the possibility of an extension should he secure qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

His immediate focus will be Ghana's AFCON qualifying campaign, which begins this month.

The Black Stars travel to Bouaké to face Côte d'Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix on 24 September before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.

After failing to qualify for the previous AFCON tournament in Morocco, Ghana will be aiming to make an immediate return to Africa's flagship football competition under the experienced Portuguese coach.
