CAF Champions League prelims: Medeama can cause an upset against TP Mazembe in return leg – Nana Oduro Sarfo

Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo remains confident Medeama SC can overturn their deficit against TP Mazembe and progress in the CAF Champions League despite suffering a first-leg defeat.

The Ghana Premier League champions fell to a 1-0 loss against the Congolese giants in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie at the TnA Park on Sunday.

Medeama will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the return leg this weekend, and Oduro Sarfo believes the Tarkwa-based club still have every chance of reaching the next stage of the competition.

“It is not over for Medeama. I think they can go there and make a statement. They should motivate themselves, go there and cause an upset just like what Mazembe has done in the first leg,” he told Asempa FM.

The former Dreams FC administrator also pointed to Medeama's recruitment ahead of the new season as a reason for optimism.

“With the recruitment Medeama has done, I think they can go and make a statement,” he added.

Medeama are aiming to secure a place in the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time since their appearance in the competition during the 2023-24 campaign.
