The 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season got off to an entertaining start with goals flowing across the country as Hearts of Oak and Vision FC delivered the standout performances of the opening weekend.
Vision FC set the tone on Saturday with a commanding 3-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex. Setsofia Aqetey struck twice, while Naziru Alhassan Nyenye opened the scoring early on to hand Vision an impressive start to the new campaign.
On Sunday, Hearts of Oak matched that statement with a resounding 4-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Veteran striker John Antwi scored in the fifth and 37th minutes to give the Phobians a comfortable two-goal lead at the break. Hearts maintained their dominance after the restart, with Mamadou Kourouma adding a third in the 88th minute before Ali Mohammed converted a stoppage-time penalty to complete the rout.
Newly promoted Debibi United marked their top-flight debut with a creditable 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park, while Heart of Lions and Aduana FC shared the points in a goalless encounter at the Kpando Sports Stadium.
FC Samartex also began the season on a winning note, beating Karela United 3-1 at the Nsenkyire Stadium.
At the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Darlvin Yeboah's first-half strike proved decisive as Bechem United edged reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0.
Basake Holy Stars left it late to secure all three points against Swedru All Blacks, with Francis Oteng netting the winner in the 82nd minute after a tightly contested match at the AAK II Park.
The meeting between fellow newcomers Port City FC and AshantiGold 04 ended 1-1 at the Nana Boamah Darko Park. Zak Musah put AshantiGold ahead in the 33rd minute, but Hamza Zakari restored parity for the hosts in the second half.
Meanwhile, the fixture between Dreams FC and Medeama SC was postponed due to Medeama's involvement in the CAF Champions League.
