Coventry City agree record €27m deal to sign Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from FC Nordsjælland

Premier League club Coventry City have reached an agreement to sign Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish outfit FC Nordsjælland in what is set to become a record-breaking transfer for the Danish Superliga.

The English side will reportedly pay €27 million for the highly-rated midfielder, with a further €3 million available in performance-related add-ons. The deal is expected to surpass the current record sale in Danish top-flight football history.

Yirenkyi, 20, is understood to have opted for Frank Lampard’s Coventry City project after being assured of an important role in the squad and regular first-team opportunities.

Coventry are prepared to make a significant investment to secure the services of the Ghana international, with the transfer set to break the club’s existing record fee.

The move is now subject to the completion of a medical examination and final contract formalities, after which Yirenkyi will officially become a Coventry player on a long-term agreement.

The midfielder is expected to arrive in England in the coming days to undergo his medical, with an official unveiling anticipated before the end of the week.

For FC Nordsjælland, the transfer represents another major financial success from their renowned player development model. The Danish club have earned a reputation for nurturing young talents before moving them on to Europe’s top leagues, with previous graduates including Ghana star Mohammed Kudus, Patrick Dorgu and Sindre Walle Egeli.

Yirenkyi leaves Nordsjælland after an impressive campaign in which he emerged as one of the club’s standout performers. The midfielder made 30 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring two goals and registering six assists.

His stock also rose further after representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where his performances helped strengthen his reputation on the international stage.
