Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Communications Director Charles Osei Asibey has acknowledged that Team Ghana failed to meet its medal expectations at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Ghana was represented by a 40-member contingent that competed across nine sporting disciplines but returned home with only two medals.
Reflecting on the team's performance, Osei Asibey disclosed that the GOC had set a target of winning at least five medals, with hopes of securing a gold medal in boxing.
"Our target was to win at least five medals. We were expecting at least one gold from boxing," he said during an interview on Asempa FM.
Despite falling short of that objective, Team Ghana produced some notable performances. Paralympian Zinabu Issah earned a silver medal in the women's F57 shot put after registering a season-best throw of 8.6 metres.
Boxer Amadu Mohammed also made the podium, claiming bronze in the men's 55kg category to secure Ghana's second and final medal of the Games.
The outcome means Team Ghana finished the competition below its projected medal haul, with the GOC expected to assess the campaign and identify areas for improvement ahead of future international competitions.
