2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship: Black Satellites held to 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso in second group game

Ghana's Black Satellites battled from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso in their second Group B match of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire, on Thursday.

The result leaves Ghana with just one point from two matches after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria in their tournament opener on Monday, making their final group game a must-win encounter.

Burkina Faso made a bright start and took an early lead, putting the Black Satellites under immediate pressure. However, Maxwell Konadu's side responded positively and showed resilience to get back into the contest.

Their persistence paid off when Joseph Badu found the equaliser, restoring parity and ensuring Ghana claimed a share of the spoils after an improved second-half display.

The draw keeps the Black Satellites in third place in Group B, with all eyes now turning to their decisive final group fixture against Togo. A victory will be essential if Ghana are to finish the group stage on a positive note.

Although the WAFU B U-20 Championship doubles as the qualification tournament for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana have already secured automatic qualification for the continental competition as hosts.

Despite that, the regional tournament remains an important part of the team's preparations, offering valuable competitive matches, strengthening squad chemistry and allowing the technical team to assess players ahead of next year's U-20 AFCON, which Ghana will host.
