New Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has expressed strong confidence in his side's ability to compete for major honours in the 2026/27 season, insisting that only the team itself can stand in the way of achieving its ambitions.
The South African tactician, who was recently appointed to lead the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the new Ghana Premier League campaign, believes careful planning, thorough preparation and a strong work ethic will provide the foundation for a successful season.
Speaking in an interview with the club's media team, Tinkler outlined his vision for the club and challenged his players to embrace the responsibility of restoring Kotoko to their rightful place at the summit of Ghanaian football.
“This season, with our planning, with our preparation, with our professionalism, good work ethic, nothing stops us from achieving our goals, only ourselves," Tinkler said.
The experienced coach also spoke about the legacy he hopes to leave at the club, stressing his desire to transform Kotoko from what he described as a "sleeping giant" into a dominant force once again.
"The legacy I want to leave behind is obviously to make this not a sleeping giant but a live giant.
“Coming to the club, I know the pressure that is obviously going to be on me because we need to achieve, we need to win, we need to get this club back where it belongs," he added.
Tinkler arrives in Kumasi following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign for the record Ghana Premier League champions. Kotoko endured an inconsistent season, finishing eighth on the league table after going through three different head coaches.
The 54-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed top South African clubs including Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.
During his playing career, he represented South Africa at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and was a member of the Bafana Bafana squad that lifted the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations title.
Kotoko supporters will be hoping Tinkler's appointment signals the beginning of a new era as the club aims to challenge for domestic honours when the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season kicks off in September.
