Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has dismissed reports suggesting that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has resigned from his position.

The Portuguese tactician was appointed as Otto Addo’s successor in April ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the former Ghana international was relieved of his duties.

Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since 2010, marking a significant achievement for the national team.

However, a social media post from the 73-year-old coach appeared to suggest that he had stepped away from his role, sparking speculation about his future.

The former Egypt, Iran and Colombia manager later clarified in a viral video interview that his message was only an expression of gratitude to the football authorities for giving him the opportunity to lead the Black Stars, rather than an announcement of his resignation.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Nana Oduro Sarfo rejected claims that Queiroz had quit, insisting that the experienced coach remains in charge of the national team.

According to him, Queiroz signed a short-term contract specifically to guide Ghana through the World Cup campaign, but his mandate with the Black Stars has not ended.

“Carlos Queiroz has not resigned. He is still the head coach of the Black Stars,” Oduro Sarfo stated.

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana made their fifth appearance at the global tournament and started strongly with a 1-0 victory over Panama.

The Black Stars followed that result with a goalless draw against England before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group match.

Ghana progressed to the knockout stage but exited the competition in the Round of 32 after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia, with Jhon Arias scoring the decisive goal.
