Black Stars winger Antoine Semenyo has called for composure and focus following Ghana’s hard-fought opening victory over Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana began their Group L campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over the Central American side at BMO Field in Toronto, sealing all three points thanks to a late strike from Caleb Yirenkyi after a tightly contested encounter that appeared destined to end goalless.
Speaking after the match, where he was named Man of the Match, Semenyo stressed that the team must stay grounded despite the encouraging start.
Looking ahead to their clash with England, he dismissed any sense of complacency and insisted the Black Stars would approach the game with respect and determination.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game," Semenyo stated when questioned about the Three Lions.
"We are not going to be ahead of ourselves. We want to win that game, but we know it’s not going to be easy," the Manchester City forward added.
The win puts Ghana in a strong early position in Group L, with two fixtures remaining. They will face England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before wrapping up their group-stage campaign against Croatia on June 27.
The four-time African champions will be targeting back-to-back positive results as they aim to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run in 2010.
