Black Stars will put up one of the best performances at 2026 World Cup - Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku says Black Stars can deliver one of its best-ever performances at the 2026 World Cup this summer.

His remarks come during an official partnership unveiling with Gold Fields Ghana on Friday, May 8.

Gold Fields Ghana and the country's football governing body have signed a two-year, $5 million sponsorship deal which covers the senior men’s and women’s national teams, the Black Stars and Black Queens, the amputee national team, the Black Challenge, and the Women’s Premier League.

Speaking at the event, Mr Okraku expressed optimism about the Black Stars’ prospects on the global stage.

"Very soon, our Black Stars will be coming out of the tunnel to represent our country during the World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico," he said.

"These resources will help us to adequately prepare a team, and we are very positive about the team putting up one of the best performances ever in the history of the game," Mr Okraku added.

The Black Stars will make their fifth World Cup appearance in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, having been drawn in Group I alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

Ghana begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, the Black Stars will play against Mexico and Wales in a preparatory games.
