Win U-17 AFCON in Morocco - GFA boss Kurt Okraku tells Black Starlets squad

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has urged the Black Starlets to go beyond qualification and target ultimate glory at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The team has already departed Ghana ahead of the tournament, which marks their return to continental competition after a prolonged absence.

Speaking to the players and technical staff before their departure, Okraku described their qualification as a significant milestone and a potential turning point for Ghana football.

He encouraged the squad to approach the competition with belief, ambition, and a strong winning mentality.

“For years, we have not been able to qualify for the AFCON. But you have done it this time,” he said.

“This year is a year of turnaround for Ghana football, and it starts with you. I have absolute confidence in this team, the quality your technical team has put together and all the preparations you have gone through. Don’t just go and qualify for the World Cup, but also put Ghana back where we belong by winning it. Believe in yourself, and you can do it.”

Okraku also reminded the players of the responsibility that comes with representing the national colours, urging them to draw inspiration from past generations of Black Starlets who achieved success on the continental and global stage.

“You are carrying the hopes of millions of Ghanaians. When you step onto that pitch, remember that you are not alone—an entire nation stands behind you,” he added.

Ghana have been drawn in Group D, where they will face Algeria, Senegal, and South Africa in what promises to be a highly competitive group.
