Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe, says Ghana’s Black Stars can regard a successful 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign as reaching the knockout stage.
Ghana, four-time African champions, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Reflecting on Ghana’s recent World Cup disappointments in 2014 and 2022, where they failed to progress beyond the group stage, Pappoe insists improvement would be measured by advancement this time.
"I will consider success if Ghana is able to go the next round of the World Cup, and with how the tournament has been structured, a win will see us through to the next round," he told Sporty FM.
The Black Stars, making their fifth appearance at the global tournament, will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Coach Carlos Queiroz is also expected to use pre-tournament friendlies to fine-tune preparations, with Ghana scheduled to face Mexico later this month and Wales next month.
The final squad for the tournament is expected to be announced on June 1.
