Black Stars: Appointment of new head coach will be announced by next week, says Sports Minister, Kofi Adams

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that Ghana could soon appoint a new head coach for the Black Stars, with an announcement expected as early as next week.

The senior national team has been without a coach since the dismissal of Otto Addo following the March international friendlies against Austria and Germany.

Speaking on Channel One TV, the Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency disclosed that the recruitment process is nearing completion, with an unveiling likely before the beginning of next week.

“If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach,” he said.

Kofi Adams also expressed confidence in the team’s prospects, insisting Ghana has the talent to compete at the highest level on the global stage.

“We have what it takes to go very far, maybe even win the World Cup. Let’s remain hopeful,” he added.

Several high-profile names, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, have been linked with the vacant role.

The new coach is expected to take charge before the team regroups in May for a pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico.

Ghana, drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

The Black Stars will be looking to improve on recent performances at the global tournament, having exited at the group stage in both the 2014 and 2022 editions.
