2026 World Cup: Black Stars have what it takes for us to go very, very far, says Sports Minister, Kofi Adams

Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to make a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite recent concerns over form and preparations.

The Black Stars are set for their fifth appearance at the global showpiece in North America and have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Adams admitted the team is not yet fully prepared, pointing to the absence of a substantive head coach as a major setback.

However, he maintained that the squad still possesses the quality to compete at the highest level.

"We may not have the best of players as we had maybe in some time past, but we still have what it takes for us to go very, very far," the Buem MP said.

The minister also confirmed that the search for a new head coach is nearing completion following the dismissal of Otto Addo, with an appointment expected by the end of the week or early next week.

Several experienced managers, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, have been linked with the vacant position.

As part of their build-up to the tournament, Ghana will face Mexico and Wales in international friendlies.

The Black Stars will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Ghana will be aiming to improve on recent World Cup outings, having exited at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022.
