Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, have slipped in the latest FIFA rankings released on April 1, highlighting ongoing concerns over the side’s form.
The four-time African champions have dropped two places from their previous 72nd position, reflecting a run of inconsistent performances in recent outings.
Despite the decline on the global stage, Ghana remains 14th on the African continent under the Confederation of African Football rankings.
The latest setback follows a disappointing international window in Europe, where the Black Stars suffered back-to-back defeats. They were heavily beaten 5–1 by Austria in Vienna on March 27, before falling 2–1 to Germany in Stuttgart three days later.
Ghana’s current ranking makes them the lowest-ranked side in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they are drawn alongside heavyweights England and Croatia, as well as an improving Panama side.
The team’s recent struggles have already triggered changes, with Otto Addo relieved of his duties as head coach, prompting the Ghana Football Association to begin the search for a replacement.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars are expected to regroup in May for an international friendly against Mexico, before taking on Wales on June 2 in their final warm-up game.
Ghana will then kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 18, face England five days later, and conclude their group stage fixtures against Croatia on June 28.
