I am ready to play for Black Stars, says Dundee United midfielder Emmanuel Agyei

Dundee United midfielder Emmanuel Agyei says he is ready to step up to the senior national team after settling quickly into life in Scottish football.

The 21-year-old joined the Scottish Premiership side from Israeli outfit Ashdod for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to a two-season spell in the Israeli Premier League, where he made 27 appearances.

Since arriving at Dundee United, the former Dreams FC player has featured in eight matches, starting seven of them. He has logged 615 minutes so far, recording 15 interceptions and 24 clearances, numbers that underline his growing influence in midfield.

Agyei admits the weight that comes with representing Ghana at the highest level but insists he is prepared when the opportunity arises.

“It’s not easy to wear the Black Stars jersey, so I’m waiting for that big opportunity,” he told Asempa FM.

“I am ready for a Black Stars call-up, and this is the time.”

With Ghana gearing up for the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Agyei is hopeful his performances in Scotland will put him on the radar of the national team’s technical bench.

“I urge Coach Otto Addo and the Ghanaian coaching team to keep an eye on my performances in the Scottish Premier League, and if I’m doing well, to give me a chance with the Black Stars," he added.

Dundee United currently sit eighth on the league table and travel to face Falkirk on Saturday, February 14.
