The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has become a dominant force in Ghana’s sports scene, particularly in hockey, under the leadership of Sports Director, Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong, and the support of the technical management team.
The GRA Ladies hockey team swept through the 2025 Salpholda Hockey League in style, finishing the season unbeaten with 33 points from 10 matches. Winning all their games across both rounds, the ladies successfully defended their title and booked a spot at the upcoming Africa Cup for Club Championship—though they had already qualified as reigning continental champions.
Their commanding display in the Greater Accra Hockey League has further boosted confidence ahead of the African competition.
The GRA Ladies remain the only Ghanaian side to have lifted the Africa Cup for Club Championship, winning it five times—in 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025. Their dominance was further recognised at this year’s hockey awards, where they were named Female Club of the Year, while their captain, Elizabeth Opoku, received the Female Hockey Player of the Year honour.
This year alone, the GRA Ladies have won all four competitions they contested: the Africa Cup for Club Championship, the T-Tommy Tournament in Kumasi, the Oguaa Fetu Tournament in Cape Coast, and the GAHA League. Meanwhile, the GRA Men’s team finished second in the league and lifted the men’s T-Tommy Tournament trophy.
Mr. Frimpong credited the success to teamwork, planning, and support from GRA leadership. “Though it is under my watch that we have annexed all these honours, the success story of GRA sports will be incomplete without acknowledging the three former Sports Directors—Mr. Dawson Amoah, Madam Angelina Ocran and the late Benjamin Baafi. I thank the Commissioner General, Top Management and the entire staff of GRA for their support,” he said in an exclusive interview at the league’s awards ceremony on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
He added that preparations are already underway for next year’s Africa Cup for Club Championship. “The management of the Authority is poised to pursue total talent development and sports promotion,” he explained, while praising the technical staff for their commitment and input.
Beyond the medals, Mr. Frimpong underscored GRA’s belief in sports as a national development tool. “The benefits of sports in the development of a nation is the most key factor for a strong economy. We in GRA will use sports to help in national development and urge all to come on board. A healthy people, healthy environment is the hallmark of a healthy country,” he stressed.
With their consistency, the GRA hockey teams continue to bring pride to Ghana, reaffirming the nation’s place on the continental sporting map.
