Accra giants Hearts of Oak were left frustrated on Friday night after being held to a goalless draw by newly-promoted Hohoe United in the opening fixture of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The Phobians, under the guidance of new head coach Didi Dramani, fielded a strong lineup at the Accra Sports Stadium but failed to break down the resilient debutants.
Despite dominating large spells of the first half, Hearts were unable to convert their chances as Abdul Rahim Bashiru’s side held firm to keep the scores level at the break.
The intensity rose in the second half, with both teams pushing forward in search of the opener. Hohoe United’s task became more difficult in the 67th minute when Solomon Adomako was shown a red card.
Yet, the visitors displayed remarkable composure, frustrating the Rainbow Club and denying them any breakthrough.
The result extends Hearts of Oak’s unwanted record; they have now gone seven consecutive seasons without winning their opening league match.
Hohoe United, meanwhile, will draw confidence from holding one of Ghana’s traditional powerhouses on their top-flight debut.
- What next?
Hearts of Oak will travel to Dawu to face Dreams FC, while Hohoe United return home to host Young Apostles in Matchday Two.
